How to Estimate Your Bangle's Value at Home

If you have a kitchen scale or jewellery scale at home:
1. Weigh the bangle - note the weight in grams
2. Check the hallmark: 916 (22K), 750 (18K), 585 (14K)
3. Apply the formula: Weight (g) × Purity fraction × IBJA rate

Example - 15g bangle, 22K hallmark:
15 × 0.916 × ₹15,250 = ₹2,09,535

Note: This is the reference figure. The branch will apply a small deduction of 1-2% as their margin, and any stones or lac filling will be assessed and excluded from the weight.

Important Notes on Bangle Weight

  • Hollow bangles weigh less than they appear - the hollow space adds no gold value
  • Stone-set bangles: stones are removed or estimated and deducted from the weight
  • Lac filling inside bangles: weight is estimated and deducted
  • Openable bangles with lock mechanisms: the lock is included in gold weight if it is the same alloy
  • Pairs: if selling a pair, weigh both together - the total matters, not which is heavier
  • Damaged or bent bangles: same rate - gold value is by weight and purity, not condition

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a gold bangle weigh?

Plain bangles typically weigh 6-15g each. Bridal or heavy bangles can be 20-50g. Weigh yours at home for an accurate estimate.

How do I calculate the value of my gold bangle?

Weight (g) × purity fraction × ₹15,250/g (today's IBJA 24K rate). For 22K: × 0.916.

Does a hollow bangle give less money?

Yes - hollow bangles weigh less per visual size, so you receive less. The rate per gram is the same, but there are fewer grams.

Are stone-set bangles worth less?

The gold portion pays the same rate. But stones are excluded from the weight calculation.

What if I have a set of 4 bangles?

Weigh all four together - the total weight × purity × IBJA rate gives the combined value.

Does bangle design affect the price?

No - only weight and purity matter at resale. Intricate designs are irrelevant.

How do I know if my bangle is 22K or 18K?

Look for the BIS hallmark stamp: 916 for 22K, 750 for 18K. Or bring it for free XRF testing at any Attica Gold branch.
