Who Issues Gold Valuation Certificates in India?
- BIS-certified Hallmarking Centres: the most authoritative for purity certification
- Licensed jewellery valuers registered with SEBI/banks: for financial/legal purposes
- Reputable jewellery stores: informal valuations - not always accepted by insurance or courts
- Banks: some banks have internal assessors for gold loan purposes
- Government-approved assay offices: for commercial/customs purposes
Does a Valuation Certificate Affect Your Selling Price?
No. When you sell gold at Attica Gold (or any reputable buyer), the price is determined by:
1. XRF testing - confirms purity independently
2. Weight on precision scales
3. IBJA rate on that day
A valuation certificate may say your necklace is worth ₹2,79,380 - but if the XRF shows it is 18K (not 22K as stated), you will be paid at the 18K rate. The XRF overrides the certificate for resale purposes.
Conversely, if the certificate says 22K and the XRF confirms 22K, the certificate becomes irrelevant - the XRF result is what the buyer uses.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a gold valuation certificate to sell gold?

What is a gold valuation certificate used for?
Primarily for insurance claims, bank gold loans, probate proceedings and legal disputes. Not needed for a standard gold sale.
Where can I get a gold valuation certificate in India?
BIS-certified hallmarking centres, licensed jewellery valuers, and some reputable jewellery stores.
How much does a gold valuation certificate cost?
Typically ₹100–₹500 per piece, depending on the issuer and the complexity of assessment.
Does a valuation certificate guarantee I get that price when selling?
No - buyers use XRF testing to determine their own purity assessment, which may differ from the certificate.
